A New Way to Live the Village

A New Way to Live the Village

GET ON THE WAITLIST

You’ve found your people in The Mamahood—now imagine living near them.

Mama-hood is an invitation to take that connection offline and into real life.

It’s for moms dreaming of shared backyards, new friends, and built-in support. Whether you're co-owning a home, renting together, or simply planting roots on the same block, Mama-hood is about creating the village we all talk about—but actually living it.

We’re teaming up with Live Near Friends, a social real estate platform that helps people live within walking distance of their favorite people. They specialize in making shared living possible—especially when it comes to co-buying multi-family properties. Together, we're making it easier for moms to find (and fund) the real-life community they’re craving.

FAQ

Who’s behind this?

The Mamahood is the largest, most diverse support community for moms in California—with over 100,000 moms across local chapters and growing every day. We connect moms to each other and to trusted experts, programs, and resources that make life easier. Live Near Friends is a real estate platform focused on helping people live near the people they love. They bring deep expertise in co-buying structures, legal frameworks, and sourcing properties designed for shared living. Together, we’re combining heart and infrastructure—so moms can turn “wouldn’t it be amazing if…” into real life.

How do you match families?

We consider: + Family makeup (number of adults, ages of kids) + Special needs or accessibility requirements + Lifestyle and values (from quiet mornings to group dinners) + Budget and financial readiness + Preferred neighborhoods or school districts Once we learn what you’re looking for, we help match you with other moms who share your vision—whether you’re looking to co-buy, co-rent, or just live nearby.

How do I know if I’m a potential buyer—or better off starting as a renter?

Great question—and one of the first steps. If you: + Have a steady income + A credit score in the 700s or higher + And access to some kind of deposit (usually starting around $50–100K) …you might be in buyer territory. That could mean joining a TIC deal, exploring co-buy options, or forming a pod to purchase together. If that doesn’t sound like you (yet!), you're not alone—and you’re still very much in the right place. We’re also gathering a waitlist of moms who want to co-rent homes together now, and possibly buy together later. We’ll help you figure out where you are and what’s possible.

What if we already have friends we want to do this with?

Perfect! You bring the people—we’ll help with the rest. We work with Live Near Friends to: + Source the right kinds of properties for shared living + Pair you with vetted real estate agents + Structure the purchase deal in a way that protects everyone Already know who your village is? Let’s build around it.

How does it work legally when buying together?

Most of our co-buying families choose a TIC (Tenancy in Common) structure. Here's why: 1. Each family owns a separate interest in the property 2. You can get separate loans and keep finances clean 3. You’re not on the hook for your co-owners' mortgage 4. You can usually sell your share independently later

Is this just for single moms?

Not at all. Mama-hood is for single, partnered, and married moms alike. Some families have one parent, some have two. Some bring kids, some are expecting. What connects us is the desire to live in community—and to raise our kids with support.

I’m a journalist—how can I cover this project?

We’d love that! Mama-hood has already caught the attention of local and national outlets, and we’re always excited to connect with aligned journalists and storytellers. We can provide: A full press kit with background info, bios, and photos Recent media coverage and features Interviews with Heather Anderson, founder of The Mamahood Interviews with Phil Levin, co-founder of Live Near Friends 👉 Sample story angles include: “The rise of the mommune: How mothers are co-buying homes and rebuilding the village” “Co-living, co-parenting, and co-buying: The new motherhood housing movement” “From online community to real-life village: How The Mamahood is changing the way moms live” “How Live Near Friends and The Mamahood are solving loneliness through real estate” Just reach out at [hello@themamahood.co] or [hello@livenearfriends.com]—we’d be thrilled to connect.
